H.J.Res. 67 — Original Slavery Remembrance Month Resolution

This section establishes the short title as the “Original Slavery Remembrance Month Resolution.”

This section supports the annual designation of a “Slavery Remembrance Month” to commemorate the evils of slavery, its continuing effects, and the freedom fighters who fought to end slavery; condemns slavery and related practices, including convict leasing, Black codes, Jim Crow laws, mass lynching, lawful segregation, police brutality, mass incarceration, and institutionalized invidious discrimination; encourages public acknowledgment of slavery remembrance; and authorizes and requests the President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe the month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
