H.R. 1198 — Let’s Get to Work Act of 2025

This section establishes the short title of the Act as the “Let’s Get to Work Act of 2025.”

This section revises the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work requirements under section 6(o) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 by: (1) allowing a parent or other household member responsible for a dependent child to satisfy the work requirement through 6 months of qualifying employment or work activity during a 36-month period, rather than only 3 months; (2) expanding the age-based exemption from work requirements to individuals over 60 years of age, from individuals over 59 years of age; (3) extending the child-care-related exemption to a child under 6 years of age, from under 18 years of age; and (4) adding an exemption for an individual who is responsible for a dependent individual and is married to, and resides with, a person who complies with the work requirement. It also makes conforming changes to cross-references in the statute to account for the new 6-month work period.

This section establishes work requirements for families in public housing and for families receiving tenant-based rental assistance by applying the requirements in section 6(o) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (7 U.S.C. 2015(o)) to covered individuals who are not exempt under that section. As background, public housing is federally assisted housing owned or operated by public housing agencies, and tenant-based rental assistance under section 8(o) helps eligible families pay rent in privately owned housing. Thus, the amendment requires members of public housing households and households receiving tenant-based assistance to comply with the same work-related rules that apply in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, unless they qualify for an exemption.
