H.R. 126 — Original Students Voicing Opinions in Today’s Elections (VOTE) Act

This section establishes the short title of the Act as the “Original Students Voicing Opinions in Today’s Elections (VOTE) Act.”

This section defines “local educational agency” and “secondary school” by cross-reference to section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 7801) for purposes of the pilot program, which provides Election Assistance Commission funds during fiscal year 2025 to eligible local educational agencies to support initiatives that provide 12th-grade students with information on how to register to vote in elections for public office.

This section requires each local educational agency receiving funds under the pilot program to submit a report to the Commission within 90 days after receiving the funds, describing the initiatives carried out with the funds and analyzing their effectiveness. It also requires the Commission to submit a report to Congress within 60 days after receiving the final local educational agency report.

This section authorizes such sums as may be necessary to carry out this Act.
