This section establishes the short title of the Act as the “U.S. Park Police Modernization Act.”
This section revises the salary schedule and service-step structure for officers and members of the United States Park Police under the District of Columbia Police and Firemen’s Salary Act of 1958. It replaces the existing pay table with a new schedule that sets 7 salary classes with step increases after 52 weeks for the first step and 104 weeks between later steps, and it establishes new pay ceilings tied to Executive Schedule level V: Salary Classes 5, 7, 8, and 9 are capped at 95 percent of level V, Salary Class 10 is set at 95 percent of level V, and Salary Class 11 is set at 100 percent of level V. The new schedule sets pay for, among others, a Private at $55,801 at step 1 and $94,739 at step 13, a Sergeant (Line) at $74,449 at step 1 and $113,245 at step 13, a Captain at $96,453 at step 1 and $136,756 at step 13, a Deputy Chief at $154,791 at step 1 and $173,945 at step 13, and a Chief, United States Park Police, at $183,100. This section also revises the service-step adjustment rules by expanding eligibility to include Salary Classes 10 and 11, increasing the step threshold in one provision to 12 from 10, and striking a separate subparagraph governing prior step adjustments. It further disregards any adjustments to annual basic compensation made on or before January 12, 2025, under section 501(c)(2) of the act, and it provides that the section may not be construed to limit or reduce any payment under section 501(c)(3). The amendments take effect on the first day of the first pay period beginning on or after enactment.
