H.R. 1339 — Safeguarding Social Security and Medicare Act

This section provides the short title of the Act as the “Safeguarding Social Security and Medicare Act.”

This section states congressional findings that 71.7 million people receive Social Security benefits and 66.6 million people receive Medicare benefits, and it directs a study of how cost-of-living increases and inflation projections will affect those programs and to provide recommendations to Congress.

This section directs the Comptroller General to conduct, not later than 1 year after enactment, a study and submit a report to Congress on the effects of inflation and cost-of-living increases on Medicare and the Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance program under title II of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 401 et seq.), and to recommend any legislative actions necessary to improve the ability of those programs to provide full benefits.
