H.R. 1356 — Mudslide Recovery Act

This section establishes the short title of the Act as the “Mudslide Recovery Act.”

This section establishes, not later than 180 days after enactment, a pilot Mudslide Recovery Grant Program to provide competitive grants to eligible recipients to implement innovative solutions to repair damage caused by mudslides that occur after a wildland fire. As background, the program would be jointly administered by the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Homeland Security, acting through the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and eligible recipients include States, Indian Tribes, State or Tribal forestry agencies, local governments, fire departments, and certain nonprofit organizations, including homeowner associations that assist communities in areas at risk of wildland fires. This section authorizes $5 million for each fiscal year from FY2026 through FY2032, for a total authorization of $35 million.
