H.R. 1406 — Lung Cancer Screening and Prevention Act of 2025

This section establishes the short title as the “Lung Cancer Screening and Prevention Act of 2025.”

This section expands Medicare Part B coverage authority for lung cancer screening by allowing the Secretary to cover, as preventive services, additional lung cancer screening tests that are cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration for appropriate individuals, with the frequency and payment limits the Secretary determines in consultation with appropriate organizations. As background, Medicare currently covers lung cancer screening tests under national coverage determination 210.14; this section adds authority to cover other tests in addition to those existing screenings. It also requires the Secretary to use the national coverage determination process for coverage decisions, but eliminates the requirement for a determination under section 1861(ddd)(3)(B) for these tests, and permits the Secretary to consider recommendations from entities with expertise in preventive services, including entities convened by the Secretary or the Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The amendments take effect on the date of enactment and apply to Medicare Part B preventive services coverage on or after that date.
