H.R. 1419 — Contaminated Wells Relocation Act

This section establishes the short title of the Act as the “Contaminated Wells Relocation Act.”

This section directs the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to enter into an agreement, for up to 5 years, with the Town of Chincoteague, Virginia, to reimburse the town for costs directly associated with developing a plan to remove drinking water wells currently located on NASA-administered property and establishing alternative drinking water wells on property under the town’s administrative control through lease, ownership, or easement. As background, the provision addresses the relocation of 3 remaining wells and requires the agreement, to the extent practicable, to include: (1) a provision for the removal and relocation of those 3 wells; (2) the location of the site to which the wells will be relocated or are planned to be relocated; and (3) a current estimated relocation cost, including costs for purchasing, leasing, or using additional property, engineering, design, permitting, and construction. This section also requires NASA to submit any agreement entered into under this section to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology not later than 18 months after enactment.
