H.R. 1429 — Activating National Parks in Cities Act

This section provides the short title of the Act as the “Activating National Parks in Cities Act.”

This section revises the National Park Service’s statutory mission in 54 U.S.C. § 100101(a) to include promoting active use of System units located in urban areas. It also adds two definitions to 54 U.S.C. § 100102: “active use,” meaning use that prioritizes current enjoyment by people and improves quality of life, including playgrounds, pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly infrastructure, sports and recreation facilities, community events, programming, and concessions; and “urban area,” meaning an area designated as an “urban area” in the most recent decennial census by the Secretary of Commerce.
