H.R. 1467 — POLE Act

This section establishes the short title of the Act as the “Protecting Our Local Elections Act” or the “POLE Act.”

This section states the findings of Congress that holding local elections for public office in odd-numbered years provides greater focus on local candidates and issues, allows voters to make more informed decisions, and avoids overcrowding the ballot in even-numbered years, and it expresses the sense of Congress that units of local government should have the authority to conduct local elections in odd-numbered years.

This section prohibits the use of Federal funds under the Help America Vote Act of 2002 or any other Act to administer elections for Federal, State, or local office in any State that does not have a law permitting units of local government to hold elections for local office in odd-numbered years. (Thus, beginning in fiscal year 2027, States without such a law would be ineligible for Federal election-administration funding.)
