H.R. 1610 — FIRE Cancer Act of 2025

This section amends the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program to authorize grants for fire departments and other eligible recipients to establish cancer prevention programs for firefighting personnel, including multi-cancer early detection testing or other preventative tests (as a new permitted use under subsection (c)(3)(F)). (As background, the AFG program provides competitive grants primarily to career, volunteer, and combination fire departments—as well as nonaffiliated EMS organizations—for firefighting and emergency medical equipment, protective gear, training, and operations.) It further (1) authorizes $700 million for such cancer prevention grants; (2) limits grant expenditures to $1,750 per multi-cancer early detection test or other preventative test; and (3) directs the FEMA Administrator and CDC Director to jointly establish a voluntary program for firefighting personnel to share anonymized test results with CDC to identify cancer trends or causes.
