H.R. 1612 — Flatside Wilderness Additions Act

This section adds approximately 2,212 acres in the Ouachita National Forest to the Flatside Wilderness designated under the Arkansas Wilderness Act of 1984, as generally depicted as "Land Proposed for Wilderness Designation" on the map entitled "Flatside Wilderness, Proposed Addition Designation," dated November 12, 2024.

This section clarifies that nothing in this Act or the amendment made by section 2 limits the Secretary of Agriculture's authority under section 4(d)(1) of the Wilderness Act to take necessary measures to control fire, insects, and diseases in wilderness areas administered by the Forest Service, consistent with existing laws and regulations.

This section designates as the Flatside-Bethune Wilderness the area designated by section 3(d) of the Arkansas Wilderness Act of 1984 (Public Law 98-508). It provides that any reference in federal law, maps, regulations, documents, or records to that portion of the Flatside Wilderness is deemed a reference to the Flatside-Bethune Wilderness.
