H.R. 1637 — Protect Veteran Jobs Act

This section establishes reinstatement eligibility for any veteran (as defined in 38 U.S.C. §101)—involuntarily removed or dismissed without cause from a civil service position (as defined in 5 U.S.C. §2101)—to that position or any other civil service position for which qualified, if the removal or dismissal occurred during the period beginning January 20, 2025, and ending on the date of enactment. The section also requires the head of each executive branch agency to submit reports to the House and Senate Committees on Oversight and Government Reform/Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Veterans' Affairs—beginning 60 days after enactment and every three months thereafter through January 20, 2029 (sunsetting thereafter)—detailing the total number of veteran employees removed or dismissed during the reporting period and the reason for each such action.
