H.R. 1645 — Climate and Health Protection Act

This section requires the Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to continue implementing the Climate and Health program carried out by CDC's National Center for Environmental Health (or any successor program) for three purposes: (1) translating climate change science to inform state, local, Tribal, and territorial governments (including health departments) and communities; (2) creating decision support tools to build capacity to prepare for climate change; and (3) serving as a leader in planning for the public health impacts of climate change. (As background, the program supports public health adaptation to climate-related health risks such as extreme weather and vector-borne diseases.) The section further requires written notification to Congress of any fund transfers or reprogramming to establish a successor program and authorizes $110 million for the program for FY2026 and each fiscal year thereafter, prohibiting transfer or reprogramming of such funds to any other program administered by the Secretary.
