Board of Education, her role at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and her post-retirement community service—and her contributions to improving equity in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) through organizing women's groups, congressional testimony, advocacy for increased funding in high-poverty minority areas, and influencing reform legislation. The section further finds that the NSLP is named after an individual who opposed anti-lynching bills and civil rights legislation, affirmed white supremacy, contributed to the Southern Manifesto, dismissed child-welfare and civil rights advocates during NSLP implementation debates, and supported segregation in the program's administration.
