This section establishes enhanced criminal penalties under 18 U.S.C. 2071 for officers or employees of the Department of Justice or an agency or office of the intelligence community (as defined in 50 U.S.C. 3003(4)) who commit an offense under that section prohibiting the willful concealment, removal, mutilation, obliteration, falsification, or destruction of U.S. government records. Such individuals face imprisonment for not less than 20 years or for life, a fine under title 18, or both (compared to a fine, imprisonment for not more than three years, or both, under current law).
