H.R. 2169 — Proper Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day Act

This section modifies the observance of the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (third Monday in January) by providing that, if Inauguration Day (January 20 every fourth year after 1965, or the following day if on Sunday) is observed on that date, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is instead the Tuesday following the third Monday in January. (Thus, federal employees entitled to Inauguration Day pay and leave—those in the executive branch and certain District of Columbia government employees—retain separate observances of both holidays.)
