H.R. 2200 — To amend title 14, United States Code, to require the retention of certain enlisted members of the Coast Guard who have completed 18 or more, but less than 20, years of service, and for other purposes.

This section establishes requirements in new 14 U.S.C. §2517 for retaining certain enlisted Coast Guard members with at least 18 but less than 20 years of service who face involuntary separation or denied reenlistment (other than for physical disability or cause). For regular members within two years of qualifying for retirement after 20 years of service, it mandates retention on active duty until retirement-eligible, unless sooner retired or discharged under another law. For reserve members in active status, it prohibits discharge, denied reenlistment, or transfer from active status without member consent before the earlier of (1) 20 years of creditable service or (2) the third anniversary of the otherwise applicable separation date (if 18-19 years of service) or the second anniversary (if 19-20 years of service). (Thus, such members may reach retirement eligibility rather than face separation short of the 20-year threshold.)
