H.R. 2228 — Survivor Benefits Fairness Act

This section revises the effective date for reductions or discontinuances of VA compensation (for service-connected disabilities), dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC, for survivors of deceased veterans), or pension (for low-income wartime veterans) due to marriage, remarriage, or death from the last day of the month before the event to the last day of the month during which the event occurs. (Thus, beneficiaries receive benefits through the end of the month of the triggering event rather than the prior month.) The change applies to such events on or after the date of enactment.
