H.R. 2261 — Strengthening Oversight of DHS Intelligence Act

This section amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (1) to require the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis, in handling intelligence information, to ensure sharing, retention, and dissemination consistent with privacy rights, civil rights, and civil liberties as determined by the Chief Privacy Officer and Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties; (2) to direct the Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties to coordinate with the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis to ensure such intelligence information handling complies with privacy rights and to provide training on privacy rights, the Privacy Act of 1974, and related laws to relevant intelligence personnel; and (3) to direct the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman to coordinate similarly with the Under Secretary to ensure compliance with civil rights and civil liberties and to provide related training to such personnel.
