H.R. 2285 — DHS Basic Training Accreditation Improvement Act of 2025

This section directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to submit to the relevant congressional committees (i.e., House Committees on Homeland Security and Judiciary; Senate Committees on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Judiciary) (1) an initial report within 90 days of enactment and annual reports thereafter on the accreditation status of each DHS basic training program (i.e., entry-level programs transitional to law enforcement or support roles) in existence as of enactment—including initial or most recent accreditation dates, anticipated next dates, accreditation managers' names, or reasons and timelines for unaccredited programs—terminating when all such programs are accredited; and (2) within 30 days of notification from a component head, notice of any program's loss of accreditation, including reasons and plans to regain it.

This section directs the Under Secretary for Science and Technology of the Department of Homeland Security to conduct research and development on systems and technologies to improve access to training offered by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) for state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement, with particular attention to rural and remote communities, to enhance domestic preparedness for and collective response to terrorism and other homeland security threats.
