H.R. 2343 — John W. Walsh Alpha-1 Home Infusion Act of 2025

This section establishes Medicare Part B coverage, effective for items and services furnished on or after January 1, 2027, for augmentation therapy (i.e., Alpha-1 Proteinase Inhibitor indicated for chronic augmentation and maintenance therapy in adults with clinical evidence of emphysema due to severe hereditary Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency) furnished in the home by qualified home infusion therapy suppliers to individuals who (1) are under the care of a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant; (2) are enrolled in both Medicare Parts A and B and not in a Medicare Advantage plan under Part C; and (3) require such therapy. The section further requires the Secretary to implement a payment system under Medicare Part B for intravenous administration kits and up to two hours of nursing services furnished by such suppliers in coordination with the therapy; provides for payment equal to 80 percent of the lesser of the actual charge or the amount determined under that payment system; directs payment to the supplier; and excludes these items and services from coverage as home health services. (Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency is a genetic disorder that can cause progressive lung damage, for which augmentation therapy replaces the deficient protective protein.)
