This section directs the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a study on the use of remote monitoring for individuals prescribed opioids and submit a report to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Committees on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and Finance not later than 18 months after enactment. The report must include (1) an assessment of scientific evidence on the efficacy, individual outcomes, and potential cost savings of remote monitoring for such individuals compared to those not monitored; (2) an assessment of the current prevalence of such monitoring, including in other countries; and (3) recommendations to improve availability, access, and coverage for remote monitoring for such individuals, including through changes to Federal health care programs (as defined in section 1128B of the Social Security Act) and, if appropriate, identification of cohorts who would benefit most.
