H.R. 2449 — Future Uses of Technology Upholding Reliable and Enhanced Networks Act

This section directs the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to establish a 6G Task Force not later than 120 days after enactment of the Act. The task force is to be chaired by appointees of the FCC Chair and, to the extent practicable, include representatives from the communications industry and public interest organizations or academic institutions (excluding those determined by the FCC Chair to be "not trusted," i.e., owned or controlled by a foreign adversary or posing a national security threat using criteria from the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019); and at least one representative each from the federal government, state governments, local governments, and Tribal governments. Not later than one year after establishment (and following a draft report and public comment period not later than 180 days after establishment), the task force must publish a report in the Federal Register and on the FCC website—also submitting it to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee—covering the status of industry-led 6G standards-setting, possible uses of the technology, limitations (including supply chain and cybersecurity), and coordination with governments on siting, deployment, and adoption.
