H.R. 2546 — Secretary of the Coast Guard Act of 2025

This section establishes a Secretary of the Coast Guard, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, who is subject to the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS); directs the Coast Guard by exercising DHS Secretary powers under 14 U.S.C. §501 and other prescribed duties; reports directly to the DHS Secretary without intermediaries; and receives direct reports from the Commandant. The section also defines the term “Secretary of the Coast Guard” in new 14 U.S.C. §106 (i.e., the official established in new §201) and makes conforming redesignations and clerical amendments to chapter 1 of title 14, U.S. Code.
