H.R. 264 — Train EATS Act

This section establishes food and beverage service requirements for Amtrak on covered routes (i.e., routes scheduled to depart and arrive on different dates). Specifically, Amtrak must provide (1) traditional dining (i.e., seated table service in a designated car by wait staff), to the extent practicable, prioritizing unused capacity for coach or other base-fare passengers on a first-come, first-served basis for a fee; and (2) an alternative food and beverage service, more affordable than traditional dining, to all passengers. Traditional dining must include a healthy meal option consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and, upon pre-order, meals satisfying passengers' dietary restrictions. The Secretary of Transportation must issue implementing regulations.
