H.R. 2720 — Gold Star Family Education Parity Act

This section terminates authority to provide educational assistance under the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program (Chapter 35, title 38, U.S. Code)—which offers education benefits to eligible dependents of veterans who died from a service-connected disability, died in the line of duty, or are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected condition—on August 1, 2029. Affected individuals become eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits (Chapter 33) as if they had elected such benefits under 38 U.S.C. §3327, notwithstanding service crediting restrictions under §3322(h)(1) but subject to limitations under §3327(d)(2).
