H.R. 2734 — Sarvis Creek Wilderness Completion Act

This section defines, for purposes of the Act, (1) the Sarvis Creek Wilderness Addition as the land added to the Sarvis Wilderness by the amendment made by section 3(a), and (2) the Secretary as the Secretary of Agriculture.

This section designates approximately 6,817 acres in the Routt National Forest as an addition to the Sarvis Creek Wilderness, as generally depicted on the map entitled “Sarvis Creek Wilderness Addition Proposal” dated February 26, 2024. For purposes of administering the addition, the reference in Section 4(d)(4) of the Wilderness Act to that Act's effective date (September 3, 1964) is deemed to be the date of enactment of this Act (i.e., the cutoff date for valid existing mining rights).

This section establishes administrative provisions for the Sarvis Creek Wilderness Addition. It (1) states that nothing in this Act affects treaty rights of any Indian tribe and authorizes the Secretary to permit Indian tribes access to, and use of, the area for traditional, religious, and cultural purposes in accordance with applicable law; and (2) authorizes the Secretary to conduct necessary activities to control fire, insects, and diseases, consistent with section 4(d)(1) of the Wilderness Act (16 U.S.C. 1133(d)(1)).
