H.R. 2826 — CAST Act

This section directs the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security and other relevant agency heads, to submit to the appropriate congressional committees (i.e., specified House and Senate committees on foreign affairs/relations, armed services, homeland security, and governmental affairs), not later than 180 days after enactment, a report on expanding the mission of Joint Interagency Task Force South—which detects and monitors illicit trafficking, primarily narcotics, in Central and South America and the Caribbean—to include combatting illicit arms trafficking in the Caribbean region. The report must include (1) a description and feasibility assessment of such expansion; (2) a summary of required adjustments to existing treaties, status-of-forces agreements, or memoranda of agreement; (3) the costs of such expansion and an explanation of additional resources required; (4) a report on force depletion; and (5) an assessment of additional coordination efforts needed with international, regional, federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies.
