This section prohibits owners and administrators of covered federally assisted rental housing from restricting or imposing additional conditions on residents' lawful possession of firearms within residents' dwelling units or in common areas while residents are en route to or from such units. Covered housing includes rental units assisted under (1) the public housing program under the United States Housing Act of 1937, (2) the Section 8 tenant-based rental assistance program under the United States Housing Act of 1937, (3) the HOME Investment Partnerships program, (4) the Housing Trust Fund program (i.e., grants to states to increase and preserve rental housing and homeownership for extremely low- and very low-income families), (5) the Section 811 supportive housing for persons with disabilities program, (6) the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS program, (7) the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act program, (8) the Native Hawaiian housing assistance program, and (9) rural rental housing programs under title V of the Housing Act of 1949.
