H.R. 3487 — Shawnee TRAILS Act

This section requires the Secretary of Agriculture to designate and maintain at least 20% of trails in the Shawnee National Forest for recreational use, including trail riding, by covered vehicles (i.e., electric bicycles (e-bikes) and off-highway vehicles (OHVs), including all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road vehicles (ORVs)). The Secretary must manage and monitor these trails to ensure they support such recreational use, minimize adverse impacts to natural resources, and keep at least one trail open at all times for covered vehicles. The section prohibits the Secretary from restricting covered vehicle use on paved roads within the forest.
