This section reauthorizes through FY2030 (from FY2023) the following Department of Justice grant programs: (1) state and local reentry demonstration projects; (2) family-based substance abuse treatment; (3) evaluation and improvement of educational methods at prisons, jails, and juvenile facilities; (4) careers training demonstration grants; (5) offender reentry substance abuse and criminal justice collaboration; and (6) community-based mentoring and transitional services for nonprofits (all under the Office of Justice Programs or Second Chance Act of 2007). It further expands permissible activities under state and local reentry demonstration projects to include (9) treating substance use disorders—such as by providing peer recovery services, case management, and access to overdose education and reversal medications—and (10) providing reentry housing services.
