H.R. 3827 — Recouping Funds from Sanctuary Cities Act of 2025

This section requires any political subdivision of a state with a sanctuary policy—i.e., a statute, ordinance, policy, or practice prohibiting or restricting the sharing of citizenship or immigration status information with government entities or compliance with a DHS detainer or release notification request under INA §236 or §287 (8 U.S.C. 1226, 1357)—to return any unobligated federal funds received during such periods, beginning with funds received in the fifth full fiscal year preceding the effective date of this Act (excluding funds under subpart 1 of part E of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968). Provides a grace period under which the requirement may be suspended if the subdivision notifies the Attorney General of its intent to remedy the policy and takes necessary actions within 15 days.
