H.R. 4064 — Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act

This section adds to the list of federal bankruptcy exemptions available to individual debtors (under 11 U.S.C. § 522(d), if elected) the debtor's aggregate interest, not to exceed $3,000 in value, in a single firearm or firearms. It also adds this exemption to the list under 11 U.S.C. § 522(f)(4)(A), allowing debtors to avoid judicial liens on such property to the extent the liens impair the exemption.

This section provides that the Act and its amendments take effect on the date of enactment, with the amendments applying only to cases commenced under title 11 of the United States Code (i.e., the Bankruptcy Code) on or after such date.
