H.R. 4167 — Expanding Access to Lending Options Act

This section states the sense of Congress that the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), as prudential regulator of federally chartered credit unions, must prioritize safety and soundness as a cornerstone of its oversight.

This section revises Federal credit union lending powers under the Federal Credit Union Act by (1) increasing the general maximum loan maturity to 20 years (or longer, as allowed by regulation of the National Credit Union Administration Board) from 15 years; and (2) removing, for first-lien residential real estate loans on one-to-four-family dwellings (including individual cooperative units) eligible for up to 30-year maturities, the requirement that the property be or will be the principal residence of the credit union member.
