This section revises prescription requirements and verification processes for contact lens sellers under the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act by (1) designating existing seller requirements as applying to "sellers generally" and requiring online sellers to provide a method enabling individuals to electronically transmit a copy of their contact lens prescription in accordance with HIPAA privacy regulations, (2) requiring online sellers to encrypt any protected health information sent by email, (3) adding email address to the contact information (i.e., name of contact person at seller's company, including facsimile, telephone number, and email address) that sellers must provide to prescribers when seeking verification, and (4) excluding calls made using an artificial or prerecorded voice from the definition of "direct communication."
