H.R. 4373 — Equality in Laws Act

This section directs the Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives to revise titles of the United States Code by replacing gender-specific pronouns and nouns (e.g., “he,” “him,” “she,” “her,” “his,” “hers”) with gender-neutral language (i.e., language referring to all genders without distinction)—using options such as “the individual,” “their,” or the relevant noun or position title—where such changes do not affect the substance or meaning. For titles enacted as positive law, the Counsel must prepare and submit revisions to the House Committee on the Judiciary; for nonpositive law titles, the Counsel must draft an amending bill.
