H.R. 4565 — No DOT Funds for Sanctuary Cities Act

This section prohibits the Secretary of Transportation from providing any grant, award, or federal funds to a sanctuary city. It authorizes a case-by-case waiver upon the Secretary's submission, at least 15 days prior to the activity, of a written certification to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure that the activity is in the national interest of the United States. It defines a "sanctuary city" as any state or political subdivision with a statute, ordinance, policy, or practice that prohibits or restricts government entities or officials from—(1) sending, receiving, maintaining, or exchanging information regarding an individual's citizenship or immigration status with federal, state, or local government entities; or (2) complying with a detainer or release notification request lawfully made by the Department of Homeland Security under §236 or §287 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1226 or 1357).
