H.R. 4619 — Medicare Mental Health Inpatient Equity Act of 2025

This section eliminates the 190-day lifetime limit on Medicare Part A coverage of inpatient psychiatric hospital services, effective for services furnished on or after January 1, 2027. (As background, Medicare Part A covers inpatient hospital services—including in psychiatric hospitals—for up to 90 days plus 60 lifetime reserve days per spell of illness; the prior limit separately capped psychiatric hospital days at 190 lifetime and excluded them from spell-of-illness counting.)
