H.R. 4656 — Path to Florida Springs National Park Act

This section directs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study (i.e., an evaluation of national significance, suitability, and feasibility for inclusion in the National Park System under 54 U.S.C. 100507) of approximately 2,800 square miles of land in north-central Florida (south of Jacksonville, north of Orlando, and east of Gainesville), including Ocala National Forest; various wilderness management, conservation, and wildlife areas (e.g., Lake George, Tiger Bay); state forests (e.g., Lake George, Seminole); and state parks and preserves (e.g., Paynes Prairie, Blue Spring). In the study, the Secretary must (1) evaluate the area's national significance, (2) determine suitability and feasibility for designation as a National Park System unit, (3) consider alternatives for preservation by federal, state, local, private, or nonprofit entities, (4) consult interested parties, and (5) identify cost estimates for any related federal activities. Not later than three years after funds are made available, the Secretary must submit a report on the results, conclusions, and recommendations to the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
