H.R. 4940 — AIRFARE Act

This section directs the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator to establish, not later than 180 days after enactment, a system at domestic airports to expedite gate passes and flight access procedures for caregivers, parents, and guardians accompanying minors (under age 18) or passengers needing assistance (i.e., individuals requiring aid due to health or mobility issues, such as wheelchair users). The system requires that (1) air carriers may issue up to two gate passes per such companion for a departing flight; (2) companions with TSA PreCheck may apply their Known Traveler Numbers to such passes, which must note that status equivalently to a ticket; and (3) for wheelchair users, gate passes are available only to the caregiver pushing the wheelchair.
