H.R. 4994 — Safe Air on Airplanes Act

This section directs the FAA Administrator to update regulations under 14 CFR part 25 and other applicable regulations within six months of enactment to (1) prohibit bleed air systems—i.e., aircraft pneumatic systems using compressed engine or APU air upstream of the combustion chamber that passengers or crew could inhale for ventilation—in new type certified turbine and turbo-prop aircraft designs; (2) require such systems in newly manufactured aircraft to include filters or air cleaning devices to remove oil fume components beginning seven years after enactment; and (3) phase out such systems in manufacturing existing type designs of turbine and turbo-prop aircraft to 25% bleed air-free by 10 years, 50% by 20 years, and 100% by 30 years after enactment.
