This section deems 11 specified color additives (i.e., Red No. 40 (CAS 25956-17-6), Red No. 3 (CAS 16423-68-0), Yellow No. 5 (CAS 1934-21-0), Yellow No. 6 (CAS 2783-94-0), Blue No. 1 (CAS 3844-45-9), Blue No. 2 (CAS 860-22-0), Green No. 3 (CAS 2353-45-9), Orange B (CAS 15139-76-1), Citrus Red 2 (CAS 6358-53-8), Titanium Dioxide, and any substantially similar additive) unsafe for use in food and any food bearing or containing them adulterated under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, effective January 1, 2027, notwithstanding their current listing and certification (or exemption therefrom) under FDA color additive regulations. (Thus, these common synthetic colors—currently approved for use in foods, beverages, and other products—will be prohibited nationwide in any food application.)
