H.R. 5073 — INFORM Act of 2025

This section requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to notify the immediate family of any individual detained pursuant to the immigration laws (as defined in the Immigration and Nationality Act) at a facility, not later than 24 hours after the individual is transferred to a different facility. The notification must include (1) the reason for the transfer and (2) the name, address, phone number, and point of contact for the new facility.

This section establishes definitions for purposes of the Act. It defines (1) "immediate family" to include each parent, sibling, child, and spouse, as well as any step-parent, step-child, or step-sibling; any foster parent or child; and any common law marriage, civil union, or domestic partnership recognized under law; and (2) "facility" as any detention center or real property temporarily used for housing individuals detained under the immigration laws.
