H.R. 5118 — Protecting Law Enforcement from Doxxing Act

This section establishes a new criminal offense under 18 U.S.C. §1510 for knowingly making publicly available the name of a federal law enforcement officer—defined to include any U.S. officer, agent, or employee authorized to engage in or supervise prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of violations of federal criminal or immigration law—with the intent to obstruct a criminal investigation or immigration enforcement operation, punishable by a fine, imprisonment for not more than five years, or both. (As background, §1510 previously prohibited bribery to obstruct communication of criminal violations to investigators and notifications by financial institution officers of certain subpoenas.) It also revises the section heading to include "and immigration enforcement operations," updates the table of sections for chapter 73 of title 18 accordingly, and makes conforming amendments to cross-references in §§1961(1), 2516(1)(c), and 3142(h)(2)(C).
