H.R. 5306 — Gun Suicide Prevention Act of 2025

This section requires a clear and conspicuous suicide prevention label on all firearms, their packaging, or included descriptive materials— notwithstanding the exclusion of firearms from the definition of consumer product under the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA)—making it unlawful for manufacturers or retailers (including firearms dealers) to sell or offer for sale any unlabeled firearm. The label must be in English and Spanish; include a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark before the text “IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS CONTEMPLATING SUICIDE, PLEASE CALL THE NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE AT” followed by 988 and the toll-free number maintained under section 520E–3 of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 290bb–36c); and is enforced as a violation of CPSA section 19(a) (15 U.S.C. 2068(a)) with penalties under CPSA sections 20 and 21 (15 U.S.C. 2069, 2070). The requirement takes effect two years after enactment.
