H.R. 5375 — Essential Skills and Child Care for Health Professions Act

This section requires demonstration projects funded under this section—grants to eligible entities for providing low-income individuals with education, training, and career advancement in high-demand health care occupations—to (1) assess adult basic skill competency and provide adult basic skills education as necessary for lower-skilled eligible individuals to enroll, enter, and complete postsecondary training, including through partner networks for pre-training activities to improve academic skills or English proficiency, resources to advance skills during career pathway programs, and embedded skill maintenance in post-graduation coaching and mentoring; and (2) guarantee available and affordable child care through referrals and enrollment assistance for subsidized programs, direct payments to providers if slots are unavailable or inaccessible, or payment of co-payments and fees. The section further allows such projects to provide assistance with accessing and completing high school equivalency or adult basic education courses to support project success and career progress.
