H.R. 5379 — HOPE Act

This section establishes a requirement for the Secretary to award at least two grants under the health professions workforce demonstration program to eligible entities in each state (excluding territories) for each grant cycle, to the extent sufficient qualified applications are received. (As background, the program authorizes grants to eligible entities for demonstration projects providing low-income individuals with education, training, case management, child care, and other supportive services for high-demand health care occupations expected to face labor shortages.) It further requires the Secretary to submit a report to the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees during each Congress covering, for the period since the prior report, the number of applications submitted and approved under each subsection of the grant authority and a description of grant awards in states with fewer than two qualified applicants; and redesignates existing subsections (c) and (d) as (d) and (e).
