H.R. 5383 — Mentoring and Supporting Families Act

This section establishes preferences and requirements for grants under the demonstration program providing low-income individuals with education, training, and career advancement in high-demand health care occupations by inserting a new subsection (c). The new subsection (1) directs the Secretary to give preference to grant applications that include mentoring or peer support and career coaching as part of case management plans and commit to providing participants with a monthly cash stipend or wage supplement; and (2) requires funded projects to include career coaching—with the option of peer support and mentoring to develop soft skills and social capital—in case management plans, offered on an ongoing basis before, during, and after initial training as part of a career pathway model.
