H.R. 5403 — Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act

This section expands authorized uses of public safety and community policing grants to include providing bonuses for the recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers by agencies experiencing declines in recruitment or high rates of retirements or resignations. It also adds a definition of “law enforcement officer” cross-referencing the term in section 1204(9) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968.
